How to calculate pH for weak acids?

Can someone explain the formula for calculating pH of weak acid solutions? I keep getting confused with the Ka formula.

For weak acids: pH = 0.5 * (pKa - log C)

This formula only works for dilute solutions. For concentrated, you need the full quadratic.
